About us

The Islington Diabetes UK Group was founded in November 2005.

Our aim is to support and educate people living with diabetes together with their family, friends, carers etc.

Many of our members are living with Type 2 diabetes, but we also support and include those living with Type 1 diabetes.

We endeavour to invite local healthcare professionals and people with various local interests to speak to our group.

Since March 2020 the Islington Group has been following guidance from Diabetes UK regarding safe practices regarding Covid 19.

Therefore, all ‘in person’ face-to-face meetings and events are on hold. This includes Group Anniversary and December socials, formal and informal meetings, as well as individual  celebrations and local partnership initiatives.

We will update the website informing pre-existing and potential new members when our usual pattern of meetings resume.

We highly recommend individuals, families and carers living with diabetes to continue to use the fantastic support services and resources provided by Diabetes UK. The helpline number is 0345 123 2399, alternatively contact via email on helpline@diabetes.org.uk.

For local residents requiring, or enquiring about, urgent medical attention we strongly suggest you contact your own GP or emergency services within the London Borough in which you live or work.

The Whittington Diabetes Clinic offers a diabetes clinical support telephone advice hotline for people who attend the Whittington Diabetes Clinic. This is Mon-Fri 10-12 am 2-4pm on 07920 294 775.

We wish you good health and wellbeing in these uncertain times and hope to meet with you in the future.

Meanwhile the Hammersmith and Fulham Group are happy for anyone to attend on-line meetings via Zoom. Please contact hfdiabetesgroup@outlook.com for further details or Mai Seida, Volunteer Support Officer, via email london@diabetes.org.uk.
